Samuel Francis Flower - Obituary
A melancholy cose of the uncertainty of life occurred East Retford, on Tuesday last, the death in the street of Mr. Samuel Francis Flower, surgeon. Some few yearn back he had a severe attack of paralysis, which incapacitated him from attending the duties of his profesrion, and he has been partly laid by; but still his general health has not prevented him from frequently appearing in public. On Tuesday afternoon he went into West Retford, and bis return, whilst in company with Mr. Superintendent Sanford, near Grove-street end, he suddenly exclaimed, dear!” and Mr. Sanford caught him in the act of falling, and he was corpse in few seconds. Mr. Flower was in tbe year of his age. The deceased gentleman had for considerable nnmber of years practised as a surgeon at East Retford. In 1839 aspiring to municipal honoars. he offered himself the burgesses as a candidate for the office of town councillor, bat he was rejected. Tbe following year he made a second effort, and was more successful. the Nov., 1841, Mr. Flower was elected an alderman, and in 1842 he was elected mayor. In 1847 lost his aldermanship, and since then he has taken part whatever in public affairs. Mr. Flower has been married thrice, and leaves widow. Mr. Flower was much respected.
