Zillah Rose Ashworth (nee Green) 1858 – 1948
Curtesy of Peter from the west coast of Canada who contacted me after finding the website. April 2022.
“About forty years ago, I was in an antique store in Victoria, BC. (I'm almost 65 now.) I was looking for an old Victorian photograph album. The reason I was doing this was because I had a lot of old pictures of my ancestors that were not in an album, and I thought it would be great to put them in one. So, I specifically was shopping for an old photograph album. (I hope you understand what I mean when I say 'Victorian photograph album.' They look like a Bible, and inside are slots for one to slide the photographs in.) I did find an album, but it already had pictures in it. I thought it a little sad that someone had sold a family photograph album, but that didn't prevent me from buying it - for twenty five dollars.
I brought the album home, and took the pictures out, and replaced them with pictures of my ancestors. My sense of history didn't allow me to merely throw out the pictures that were previously in the album, so I copied down any names that were in the album that were associated with the pictures. Then, I took the pictures to school, (I was a school teacher,) and used the pictures for bulletin board displays related to anything historical. When I retired, I brought the pictures home, and said to myself, "I really should try to see if I can put these pictures back into the right hands." I retired over a year ago, so you can see that speed isn't exactly my strong suit!
The pictures appear to come from the Manchester-south Yorkshire area of England. The most unusual name I found was 'Zillah Green,' and the caption also included the words, 'later Mrs. Ashworth,' which I thought would make for a good Google search. That's how I found your site!”
